Forged by Fire

By Sharon M. Draper

This story revolves around a young boy named Gerald. Unfortunately for Gerald, he was born into a tragic life in the ghetto. His father has been absent for most of his life and his mom is incarcerated due to drug and alcohol addiction. Gerald has been raised by Aunt Queen but when his mother is released from prison she gets custody and is now forced to live with his new stepfather Jordan, and his half-sister, Angel.

Jordan is an alcoholic, and is abusive towards the family. And one day, Gerald decides that he has had enough of the pain and suffering from him. So he plans to save his family from Jordan. Will he succeed? Will Gerald be able to overcome Jordan?

Forged by Fire is an amazing book that gives insight on the depressing lives in the world that really do go through this. The genre, tragedy, perfectly displays the story in a way that makes you feel attached to the character and immersed into the story like you’re the one in it. The author, Sharon M. Draper, is among one of the greatest in this generation because she conveys the emotion and passion, almost as if she is painting a world in front of you. I recommend this book because this is the book that got me into reading in the first place, because it doesn’t even feel like reading, it feels like you are watching a play unfold. If you are someone that has a hard time finding books, this book is for you. I rate this book 5 stars out of 5! But beware, if you do start reading this book, you may not want to stop reading it.
