How to heal Root Chakra: Part 3 – Affirmations

Affirmations: How positive thinking could help heal the Root Chakra

Quote of the day: “Everything you want is waiting for you on the other side of Consistency” – Unknown

In part one of this blog series, we dived into trying to understand what root chakra is and its components. In the second part, we went over how self-sabotage can hinder progress, and the way journaling could help us become aware of how we respond to struggles.

Today, I want to share how daily Affirmations could help us heal root chakra by filtering negative thoughts into positive ones. What we focus on dictates outcome, from the moment we wake up, our thought process determines how our day will go, and our viewpoint can have an impact on our health. A fascinating article by John Hopkins Medicine, titled “The Power of Positive Thinking”, explains how studies concluded a strong link between positivity and health. According to their article “People with a family history of heart disease who also had a positive outlook were one-third less likely to have a heart attack or other cardiovascular event five to 25 years, than those with a more negative outlook.”

To learn about this, I wanted to explore how the connection between thoughts affect Neuroplasticity, and health.

  • How is Neuroplasticity affected by thoughts?

According to Wikipedia, “Neuroplasticity, or brain plasticity, is the ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization. It is when the brain is rewired to function in some way that differs from how it previously functioned.”

In short, it’s the brain’s ability to change and adapt to new connections. How we were brought up conditioned the way we respond to events. Neuroplasticity played a role in the way our brain adapted to these experiences. Our tendency to be pessimistic becomes an easier habit to adapt to, and can affect more than just emotional health.

Doctors found that people who are negative are more likely to suffer from illnesses such as brain disease, cardiovascular problems, and digestive issues. At the same time, our brains can be changed and be reprogrammed to respond to positive thinking. The cerebral cortex is in charge of producing chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine, and sending them to our body, these chemicals affect the way we feel. When dopamine is released we feel sense of temporary pleasure associated with reward, like eating something you like, exercise, and meditation. When serotonin is release we feel the long lasting feeling of happiness and well-being.

Affirmations play an important role in re-training our mind to think positively.

  • How affirmations can help you think positively

Many people are familiar with affirmations, they are used during meditation, and yoga. Affirmations are positive statements you repeat to yourself constantly to change the way you think and feel, these phrases challenge negative thoughts by creating awareness. The Root Chakra is located at the bottom of the spine, and it rules aspects of security. Negative emotions associated with an unbalanced root chakra manifests as Anxiety and Depression. If our thoughts are cluttered by unsolved problems, then our brain sends those signals to our body and our emotions interpret them with feelings of worry and fear. As you begin to think positively, you are rewiring your brain to respond to new stimuli, your body will start receiving these happy chemicals that will impact your wellness and emotional health.

Root Chakra affirmations focus on unblocking, and restoring balance to your body, by bringing forth feelings of peace, security, and safety. The sacred mantra associated with root chakra is “LAM”, translated to “I AM” in English.

  • Final Thoughts

Affirmations can be an effective tool to change and reinforce new behavior. They are to be repeated daily and continuously. I start my day with power thoughts, good music, and cite positive affirmations prior to my daily oracle reading. I continue to repeat these mantras before I leave for work, and I believe they help me find balance in uncomfortable situations, because I trust things will work out. I remind myself – “Out of this, something good will come”. In my own experience, they have also served as reminders of my purpose. I am here because I am capable of sharing my thoughts and opinions. It all works in divine timing, in love and in light.
